First trip to Yellowstone

I’ve always wanted to go to Yellowstone, but haven’t ever taken the trip.

So, when my grandparents invited us to go I decided that we’d go even if Steve couldn’t get off work.

On Tuesday, the kids and I loaded up and went to my grandparents house. My uncle and aunt with their three kids, and two of my other cousins also went with us. We stopped at Lava Hot Springs to swim at the pool. Another uncle and aunt met us at the cabin in Island Park. Wednesday, we made our first trip into the park. We saw several hot springs, some mud pots, and geysers. We even waited around for Old Faithful, which the kids were impatient for but excited to watch when it erupted. The second day we looked for more wild life while still looking at some of the other natural wonders. We also had lunch with a bison.

We had stopped for lunch in a pull out that had a couple trees. We all got out to stretch and decided where we wanted to eat when we realized that just over this little hill there was a bison. The kids were all fascinated. It started coming closer so everyone retreated to stand by the vehicles. After a while it decided that it didn’t enjoy our company and wandered off. So we were able to sit in the shade and enjoy our lunch.

We saw lots of bison, elk, a bald eagle, a grizzly bear with two cubs, and a bunch of other animals. There were two animals we were hoping to see that we didn’t see: moose and black bear.

Friday, we packed, cleaned the cabin and drove home. After all that driving we are glad to be home! At the same time, the kids have begun to plan another trip so we can take Steve.

Great pictures! I love the one where all the kids look ornery- it is a classic!

We saw your pics on facebook. Looks like you had so much fun! We were bummed about not being able to go, especially since you saw a mommy bear and her cubs!

Oh, so fun. Bet the kids loved it! I've only seen bears one time -- they're kinda elusive nowadays.
