Body Image

You know the people who look in the mirror and think "I'm sooo overweight!"? Well I'm not one of them. As a teenager I wasn't the happiest with my body image but I wasn't completely unhappy with it either. Now when I look in the mirror, I think "I could loose some weight, especially in my tummy and thighs; but overall I look fairly good for having four kids!" I'm not meaning this to brag because I know I'm not a fit person. I just wanted you to know that I have "I look pretty good" syndrome. ;) That is until I put on my swimsuit. That is a whole other unpleasant picture. I think that is why I've always preferred wearing a tank or t-shirt and shorts over my swimsuit.

Last November we joined Gold's Gym because they have a child care included in the membership that we got (it's easier for me to exercise when I don't have kids hanging on me or "helping" me). Since that time I've tried to watch my diet (eat healthier portions and foods) and I've been really good about exercising regularly. I know I need to do better with my diet. I don't think I've lost any pounds, but I'm pretty sure I've lost an inch or so around my waist. I just wish it would come off faster! I had four kids in six years and have all the weight to prove it. I'm determined that it will take less than six years to take the weight off. Any suggestions for a food lover (especially chocolate desserts)?

Oooooh why is it that we have to go off chocolate to lose weight???? I'm tellin' ya it aint right. It just aint right. May we all die a happy obese death if it is drowning in chocolate!

Sadly, it is the fruits and veggies thing. Eat lots of them and if you can raw is better. The greener the veggie the better as well. Don't try going off of chocolate. Seriously, "they" have found that those who went without choc. and sugar did worse on their diets than those who just cut back. Allow one day a week to splurge and have your treat. The rest of the week stick to your fruits and veggies. Throw in some grain and protein. For me it is easier if I put a bunch of fruit and veggies on the counter. I'll munch from that but if it isn't out.....I'll grab the "easy" stuff which is the unhealthy stuff. Good luck girl and not that you've asked my opinion but I think you look great. Always thought you have.

ok, so here is what i have tried that has actually worked in the past: body for life taught me what portions were and how to work out, my vegetarian phase taught me how to eat beans, my vegan phase taught me how to eat tofu and soydream icecream, my running phase taught me how to work out HARD and live through the pain, my raw vegan phase taught me how to make a righteous salad, my walking phase taught me consistancy, and my moderation in all things phase put it all together and taught me that health is all about balance and joy. there it is then....health 101 from misty...and guess what....i am still fighting the fat...is this a battle i will ever really win???? ;) i think so....if i can just stop getting pregnant! ;)
