Old Red

This is what my dad's truck, Old Red, looked like when he was dating my mom.

As you can see from the next pic, we were not as careful as my dad would have liked us to be with Old Red. (I'm not sure if it's a rock or a ball she's throwing.)

He replaced and repaired many parts on Old Red. It kept going and we had so much fun going to the drive in to watch movies, going fishing, and on camping trips in it. (I have to also tell you that the seat belts were rarely used. They usually ended up under the seat.)

In December of 1996, Dad let me drive it down to Ephraim.

After dinner I loaded my gear into Red. As I was driving it began to snow. The snow was beautiful! I made it off I-15 in Nephi and through the canyon safely. As I began to drive through the towns between the canyon and Ephraim I got impatient. Just outside of Moroni I decided to pass the vehicle in front of me. As I pulled into the passing lane Red met some black ice. "I've lost control" I thought.

This next part was told to me by others, I don't remember it:
The front tires of Old Red hit the hill/ditch/embankment on the other side of the road. In the vehicle behind me, Shane saw Red flip tailgate over front end. I was thrown out the windshield as Old Red rolled over me. Do you see how the windshield and hood almost make an L? That is where I was when Red went over me. Anyway, Red ended up back on it's wheels. Shane came running up and thought I was dead. Dad's tool box had spilled his tools all over the ground. There was an axe on one side of my head and (I think) a jack on the other side. When the EMT's got there they started asking the standard questions. After being asked the same questions a few times I got irritated and told them "I already told you!"

The next thing I remember I'm at the hospital. The nurses carefully cleaned my wounds then the doctor removed the part of my scalp that I scalped and stitched up my face, scalp, and ear. The nurses then tried to get the rest of the dirt, glass, etc. out of my hair. A while later my parents came and picked me up from the hospital.

Later my dad and brother went and picked up Old Red. This is what I did to it:

Luckily Dad loves his kids more than Old Red!

Fun to see the old truck. The beginning of our things I thought I had to do after or at the same time as you. Good thing we were both being watched over!

I remember that, I think we had FHE at your house that night before you left. How freaky, car accidents freak me out.
