I love my mother-in-law's property. Not only is it big but it has fantastic shade. Unfortunately some of the trees in her yard have had to be cut down. This tree is hollow in the middle and since it was so big (two to three times as tall as her two story house) they had to cut it down. Here is a picture of the stump and the mess:
The hole in the tree is big enough for an adult to stand inside the tree. They cut the rectangle on both sides of the stump. There are a few more trees on the property that will need to be checked and possibly come down soon.
Steve and some of his brothers have been helping clean up the tree, they have spent two Saturdays working on it and still have more to do. They paid a professional to cut the tree down.
We stopped by to check it out on Saturday, November 1st when they were cleaning it up. The boys had fun checking out the stump. They got to climb through it and sit on top of it for a few minutes. Then they checked out the wood chipper. They were fascinated that branches would go in and little wood chips would come out.
The one advantage is we will not have to pay for firewood when we go camping next summer, and my mother-in-law will have plenty of fuel for her wood burning stove.

That is a cool stump! I'd leave it in my yard and make a play house of sorts out of it!
That's a huge tree! Cute pictures!
That's a great tree house. You could put a ladder on it and build something on the top. It's really nice of Steve and his brothers to help out his mom.
That IS a cool stump. Definately need to keep that! With a child's imagination, it will become MANY things!
Love you new background for your blog!
That is so cool. Where is that at? I hope no one ever cuts down the stump.
